FEATURES OF THE BROTHER PE 800 EMBROIDERY MACHINE
When setting up and using a Brother PE 800 embroidery machine, it’s always nice to have the machine help you, some of the automatic functions here.
- Automatic thread cutter
While you can trim the threads manually by pressing the thread trim button or using embroidery scissors, you can also activate the automatic thread trim function. After each color sewn, the machine immediately cuts the thread. However, it does not cut jump stitches, which are threads of the same color between parts of the embroidery pattern.
- Automatic needle threader
The automatic needle threader makes threading easy by using a small lever with a hook to catch the thread and pull it through the needle. Since it can be difficult for some people to learn how to use it, you always have the option of threading the needle by hand.
- Quick Setup, Top-Drop Coil
The bobbin is easily wound onto the top of the machine and the bobbin is installed from the top of the embroidery work area. The beauty of the quick adjust bobbin is that the Brother PE800 automatically pulls out the bobbin thread when you start sewing, so you don’t have to do it yourself.
- Automatic default voltage
After restarting, the Brother PE800 automatically resets to the default thread tension setting every time. You can then adjust the voltage on the LCD screen to suit the needs of your new project. After choosing the correct voltage, you can save this value using a pattern. So when you stitch the pattern again, the PE800 automatically resets the tension to the value used when the saved pattern was first loaded.
BROTHER PE 800 PROS AND CONS
- Fast and reliable Brother computer embroidery machine
- Mix and match designs on the touch screen – monogram and stitch the design together
- Relatively inexpensive embroidery machine with precise stitching
- Ideal for small home embroidery businesses
- Easy and uncomplicated use
First, the Brother PE 800 is an embroidery-only machine. This means that if you are monogramming a dress and want to line the stand, you need to switch to a sewing machine. Some users point out that the machine only works well with certain fibers and do not always provide quality products. The correct weight and type of needle and thread compatible with your fabric you want to embroider is very important! So is choosing the right machine embroidery stabilizer and ensuring the correct placement of the fabric in the frame.
Advanced needle threader is not always reliable. From time to time I have to turn the machine on and off and fiddle with the presser foot lever to get the needle aligned in the correct orientation. It is necessary to re-thread after each color change. However, unless you are investing significantly more money in a multi-needle embroidery machine, thread replacement will be standard on all machines under $5000.
Finally, some users wish the Brother PE 800 5×7 embroidery machine had a larger embroidery area. Know that even though the area is smaller than many other embroidery machines, you can still divide and rearrange embroidery patterns between them, stitch together multiple parts to create one large pattern.
WHAT ARE THE DESIGNS SET ON THE BROTHER PE 800 EMBROIDERY MACHINE
In Brother PE 800 embroidery machine there are 138 built-in patterns, including floral, holiday, decorative, and more. These suggestions can be found on pages 4 and 5 of this manual. You’ll also notice that 26 of these designs are actual flower letters. They’re ornate and pretty, but they count as part of Brother’s 138 designs.
For detailed information on each pattern, see page 18. Here are the numbers of colors per pattern, when to change threads, and the estimated time to embroider the pattern. To give you an idea, the Easter Bunny design has 10 color changes and takes approximately 14 minutes to sew.
It contains 11 fonts, of which only 7 are English letters. 3 are Japanese and 1 is Cyrillic. See what letters and numbers look like in the alphabet on Wikipedia. Page 38 of the embroidery design guide shows an overview of how the fonts look side by side, but you can see them in more detail from the bottom of page 5. Frame shapes start at the bottom of page 16 and include circle, square, diamond, oval, 2 rectangular orientations, 2 shield-like shapes (one looks like a guitar pick and the other looks like a badge), a heart and an octagon. If you look to the right of the shapes, you’ll see 14 border designs that you can add to each one.
This is a computerized embroidery machine only, so there is no foot pedal included. You can use the buttons on the front of the embroidery machine to control sewing. There is also a start/stop button, a needle up/down button and a thread trim button. Sewing settings such as changing the sewing speed, the size of the embroidery frame used, and the initial needle position can be changed in the embroidery settings on the LCD touch screen.
IS BROTHER PE 800 A GOOD EMBROIDERY MACHINE FOR BEGINNERS
In general, Brother Sewing and embroidery machines are some of the easiest to thread. You can find the instructions in the user manual, in the quick start guide and on the body of the machine. Setting up and threading the Brother PE 800 embroidery machine is very easy.
The spool is wound on the top of the machine and is a quick adjust spool, meaning you don’t have to thread the spool yourself. Hints and reminders for threading and setting the bobbin are located on the top and bottom of the machine in case you forget. Top threading involves following the thread guides and numbers printed on the machine.
The instructions are very informative and there are countless tutorials on YouTube for this popular Brother PE800 embroidery machine. There is a bit of a learning curve in the beginning for beginners and a lot of the problems you have could be user error. Be sure to educate yourself before and while using the machine.
Brother PE800 is recommended for beginners. However, if you’re not sure embroidery is your thing; it is a big financial investment. As an alternative, consider trying the Brother PE535, which is usually half the price. It has a 4″x4″ embroidery area, which will mean more rearranging, but it’s a much smaller investment.
CONCLUSION
The Brother PE 800 embroidery machine was popular for a very long time before it was replaced by the Brother PE900. It still hasn’t been discontinued, so I recommend it, especially for users who want to save money and those who don’t care about the extra features of the PE900. However, when comparing the PE800 and PE900, the addition of automatic jump trimming on the PE900 is a big selling point, as is the inclusion of wireless LAN connectivity. However, these features may not mean much to you, so consider this 5×7 computerized embroidery machine as well.
